After two weeks of providing urgent and essential support to people affected by the recent earthquake, the first wave of REACT Response teams touched down in the UK this evening.
The Responders have spent the last 14 days carrying out rapid needs assessments in some of the worst-hit and hardest-to-reach villages, to identify and meet urgent needs including providing shelter, digging emergency latrines to improve sanitation and providing medical assistance.
As these remarkable volunteers return to their jobs and their families, our work in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains continues.
With colder temperatures and a rainy season on the way, the race is on to provide appropriate shelter for many more people who are without a home. More local organisations are stepping up to provide support to affected communities, but more help is needed.
REACT is continuing to work with trusted partners on the ground in Morocco to procure more tents from local suppliers, distributing them to people who need them most.
We are also funding the purchase of local materials to aid the construction of 50 homes, made using traditional methods and utilising local craftsmanship.
Thanks to your support, we have already been able to purchase and distribute enough tents to shelter 250 people.
