REACT are supporting an inspiring new event in Scotland this August, that brings together emergency services personnel and their families for a weekend of relaxation, adventure and sport.

999 RESET is a 3-day event held at Badaguish Outdoor Centre in Glenmore. It has been set up by a group of fire service personnel who had previously formed a walking and climbing club. RESET representative Dougie said “as some of us were former forces, we could support the group by navigating terrain and providing advice. It was great to just take folk out and introduce them to walking and climbing in a safe manner. Initially this was purely from a practical point of view; Giving advice on what boots to wear, which jacket is best in winter conditions, that sort of thing. But what we found was that the people were starting to open up. Jobs in the emergency services can obviously involve a certain amount of unpleasant and traumatic experiences, but I’m sure you can appreciate that we’re not always good at sharing these with our support network. The group seemed to provide a safe and open space to share things with like-minded people.”

The success and growth of the club sparked an idea to bring even more people together, but with a greater focus on support and wellbeing, as well as all of the usual outdoor activities. The event kicks off with a series of short films and a talk from guest speaker Sam Cairns, an outdoor adventurer and former Team GB biathlete. Over the weekend, attendees will hear from other speakers (including our very own International operations Manager Paul Taylor) and get to take part in a host of activities including windsurfing, Crossfit, scrambling and yoga.
