REACT Responders have proved they can turn their hand to anything, by volunteering to support a DIY SOS project near Kidderminster. The volunteers stepped up to help make a difference for a family in Bewdley, as part of the popular BBC show’s latest build project. Nick Knowles, the show’s host, reached out for urgent help from local trades like carpenters and plasterers. Responding to the call, REACT volunteers joined the effort to help carry and clear materials, manoeuvre tons of rubble, and support the build team in any way possible, in the face of some challenging weather conditions.

The labour has been intensive, with the team facing heavy rains, deep mud, and flooding issues, yet they continue undeterred. Among their efforts, REACT volunteers helped to ensure local properties were safe from flooding by clearing drainage near the site. Other tasks included relocating bricks and roof trusses, sorting fencing, and assisting bricklayers—all critical to advancing the project.

Throughout the build, the team have worked alongside local businesses, students from a nearby college, and Kidderminster’s housing association. The level of collaboration on a project that will improve the lives of a family in need has been inspiring and embodies a powerful community spirit. The Responders positive energy, perseverance, and willingness to pitch in on any task has led to high praise from the site managers and DIY SOS staff, who are deeply appreciative of REACT’s commitment.

As Jane Pound, REACT’s Chief People Officer, shared in a message of gratitude: “Thank you to all the brilliant volunteers who stepped up this week. Your flexibility and dedication to supporting this family are inspiring.”

Together with DIY SOS, REACT is helping transform not only a home but also the lives of a family and an entire community, showing the impact that dedicated volunteers can make when they come together for a worthy cause

The latest series of DIY SOS is currently being filmed at locations across the country and is expected to be aired on an unconfirmed date in 2025.
