Since turning his first bowl in woodwork classes at school, RE:ACT Responder Fred Carruthers had always wanted to do more woodturning. Therefore, it was no surprise to his family when his first purchase after leaving the Royal Navy in 1996 was a lathe.

About eight years ago Fred started to turn small wooden Christmas trees as gifts for friends and family. They were so popular that the following year he started to sell them to raise funds for the local Scout Unit. Since then Fred has sold the trees to raise funds for various charities and this year it is RE:ACT's turn (sorry we couldn't resist the pun).

Fred has volunteered with RE:ACT since January 2021 and since then he has completed 11 deployments ranging from Covid-19 testing to supporting food banks to deliver supplies, as well as 7 days as a RE:ACT Games Responder at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Fred’s charity mini Christmas trees have already raised a whopping £160 for RE:ACT. All the proceeds will support RE:ACT's humanitarian efforts, and we’re really grateful to Fred for his efforts.
