RE:ACT has recently deployed a two-person recce team to the Caribbean, where we have supported numerous local populations during humanitarian operations in the past.
The team which is currently in the Caribbean will be conducting meetings with key stakeholders in Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Turks and Caicos (TCI) and The Bahamas.
We look to reignite relationships with local partners, forged during previous responses, alongside formalising our operational partnerships with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the national disaster management agencies of Antigua and Barbuda, BVI, TCI and The Bahamas.
As always, we will also be looking for more opportunities to collaborate with local charities and NGOs across the region to help better facilitate effective and rapid disaster response efforts in the future.
RE:ACT's International Operations Manager says ‘If there's one thing I’ve learnt over the years it's that disaster response is a team sport and the cornerstone of any effective humanitarian action is collaboration’.
With Hurricane Fiona currently bearing down on the Caribbean, these visits are now very timely indeed and will allow us to provide the best support to any response needed.
Our special thanks go to The MacTaggart Foundation for enabling this timely recce to go ahead.
