REACT has deployed a team of Responders to Northampton to assist in the running of an emergency rest centre after the flooding at Billing Aquadrome forced a full evacuation. The situation, which affected over 50 people and 22 dogs, required swift coordination between multiple agencies, including Northamptonshire Police and Fire and Rescue.
Among those evacuated was Janet Brickwood, who, along with her dog Sandy, found refuge at the rest centre. Reflecting on the experience, Janet expressed heartfelt appreciation:
"I am extremely grateful for all that you have done for me and Sandy, and for all of the volunteers here at the shelter."
REACT’s team are still there, working closely with local agencies to ensure the rest centre is properly managed, providing essential care and resources for evacuees. They will be on hand throughout the night and into tomorrow. The rest centre, located at Lings Forum Leisure Centre, has become a safe haven for those displaced, offering not only shelter but emotional support during this trying time.
Flood warnings remain in place, and REACT continues to monitor the situation, ready to provide further assistance as needed.
