REACT has launched an urgent humanitarian appeal following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and neighbouring countries, claiming over 2,000 lives and injuring thousands more. The situation on the ground is unfolding rapidly, and REACT is responding.
A Region in Crisis
The earthquake, one of the strongest to hit the region in recent years, has caused widespread destruction in Mandalay and other affected areas of Myanmar, as well as parts of Bangkok, Thailand, where a high-rise collapse has left dozens missing. Critical infrastructure—roads, hospitals, power lines, and communication networks—has been severely damaged, complicating search, rescue, and relief efforts.
Reports from humanitarian partners and local responders highlight that hundreds remain trapped under rubble, and access to many affected communities is extremely limited. Survivors are in urgent need of medical care, clean water, shelter, and psychosocial support.
REACT’s Response
In direct response to the crisis, REACT has deployed an all-female, highly trained Response Team to Bangkok, Thailand. From there, our team will work alongside organisations including UNDAC (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination) and other international agencies to support the coordination of humanitarian aid and help identify and reach the most vulnerable communities inside Myanmar.
Challenges on the Ground
Gaining access to Myanmar remains one of the greatest challenges of this operation. The country’s internal conflict and fragile infrastructure mean that humanitarian organisations must navigate significant logistical, diplomatic, and security barriers to reach affected populations.
This is why REACT is operating initially from Bangkok - working with other international partners to cut through the noise, build the necessary coordination frameworks, and act the moment access is secured.
What We Need
REACT is calling on the public to support our appeal to power this operation. Donations will help cover:
Deployment and logistics costs
Essential field equipment and supplies
Coordination and communication resources
Support for follow-on teams and sustained impact
How You Can Help
REACT’s work is powered by people like you. Every donation—large or small—makes a real difference in how quickly and effectively we can respond.
Donate now and power our response
Together, we can do #WhateverItTakes to get aid to those who need it most.
