A devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 has recently struck the heart of Morocco, resulting in a tragic loss of life with at least 2000 reported casualties, according to the country's interior ministry.
The earthquake's epicentre was located in the rugged High Atlas Mountains, situated 71 km (44 miles) to the southwest of the city of Marrakesh. The event occurred at 23:11 local time, at a depth of 18.5 km beneath the Earth's surface, as reported by the United States Geological Survey. Just 19 minutes later, an aftershock with a magnitude of 4.9 happened.
