Last weekend, 13 dedicated REACT volunteer Responders—10 of whom are veterans—successfully completed the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Module 2 Water and Flood First Responder training. With this milestone, REACT’s specialist Flood Response Team has grown to 39 members, strengthening our capacity to support local authorities and communities in their most vulnerable moments.

Flooding: A Growing Threat

The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly visible, with flooding emerging as one of the most pressing challenges in the UK. By 2050, flood exposure in the UK is projected to surge by 61%, threatening countless homes, businesses, and—most critically—lives. Areas once considered safe are no longer immune, underscoring the urgent need for proactive, well-trained response teams.

The Spirit of REACT

Our volunteer Flood Responders embody the resilience and dedication that define REACT. Their willingness to step up, train rigorously, and prepare for the unpredictable ensures that no one faces flooding alone.

This progress would not have been possible without the support of partners like BAE Systems, whose belief in our mission has enabled us to train and equip an incredible team.
